Charles “Roy” Pankey, age 85, of Iberia, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at the Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Miller County on September 8, 1921, son of Richard and Mary Pankey. On October 18, 1941, in Vienna, he was married to Loretta Marie Rowe, who survives at the home.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Iberia Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed bluegrass and gospel music and visiting with family and friends.
Other survivors include four sons, Charles R. Pankey Jr., and wife, Maydell of Gonzales, Texas, Dennis Pankey and fiancée, Debbie of New York, Bruce Pankey and wife, Erma of Iberia, and James Pankey and wife, Lorretta of Ulman; one daughter, Mary Sue Cawood and husband, Ted of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; five sisters; and one granddaughter, Amy Lynn Pankey.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13, at the Iberia Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Greg McClain will officiate. Interment with military honors will be in Hickory Point Cemetery near Iberia.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia.
